The Journey I Never Chose… But Learned to Love
I began my journey as a Medical Laboratory Technology student in 2016. At that time, I was not at all aware of the subjects or the curriculum, as I had chosen the course only because my parents compelled me to.
After entering the classroom and listening to endless lectures about the minute particles in our blood, I realized that I was not studying an ordinary professional degree. There is something truly magical about this course—we get to see things that the naked eye cannot see. We can create suitable environments for bacteria to grow, and we can quantify biomolecules, all of which are essential for diagnosing diseases.
The journey was not easy. Endless practical sessions, confusing chemical reactions, empty culture plates, and washed-out smears often left us feeling lost and uncertain.
After completing the course, the real challenge began. Reality was very different from what we had imagined. Patients, samples, machines, and tests constantly tested our patience.
But the one thing that makes me proud as a laboratory technologist is that I can contribute to saving at least one life every day by delivering accurate results.
That is when I truly realized the meaning of our motto: “Behind the scenes, behind the cure.”
